Statement of Purpose

Horizon School is dedicated to the academic, social, and emotional growth of our students. Each of our students is unique, and each one can succeed if provided with good instruction in a productive environment. Such an environment is characterized by high expectations, positive attitudes, firm but fair discipline, and cooperation between home and school.

 Supporting Student Learning:

The District Improvement Plan guides the work of School District U-46. The plan is directing the district efforts to achieve the goal of Academic Success for All Students. To meet this goal, the district has developed the Curriculum Roadmap. The Roadmap provides an overview of the curriculum at each grade level.

 Parent Involvement:

 Parents play an important role at Horizon Elementary School.

  • They volunteer in classrooms, in the computer lab, on field trips, and with classroom activities.
  • They run three book fairs and a Harvest Fest for the students and families.
  • They administer the Accelerated Reader program where students who have been successful in meeting reading goals earn prizes.
  • Parents also attend school activities such as Open House and Family Math Night.
